Resin Casting
In May 2023, the library reopened after a week of renovations. A lot has changed, and many new sections have been added, but the eco-friendly section remains in the same spot as before. This section houses some cute Mika resin sample chips, known for their VOC-free properties!
These sample chips were made by one of the managers using resin that had been delivered without the chips in March. The materials needed for this process were: a resin set (mineral powder + liquid resin), a stick to stir the set, a measuring cup, molds, and a scale. Disposable gloves and a surface protector were also used.
It’s so satisfying just to look at. The resin comes in two types, depending on the curing time: MW1000 (begins to harden within 10 minutes) and MW2000 (begins to harden within 40 minutes). The sample was made using MW1000. I remember being shocked at how quickly it hardened, almost as soon as I finished pouring. I tried out different colors and even mixed in some tea leaves that were sitting around in the office.
The manager who tried making the resin casting said: "It’s not hard at all, and even a clumsy person like me could make something good with it. I’d definitely recommend it for projects that need to be completed quickly. It’s a fun material to try out, even just for fun!"
